A deep plate or pan with a lid, a fork, a small plate, a large mug or a can, a kitchen knife, a cutting board, disposable paper towels.

Preparation of mackerel marinated with onions:

Step 1: Prepare the mackerel.

Remove the mackerel from the freezer and leave it briefly at room temperature. It should defrost to such a state that you can easily clean and gut it. In this case, the process will be completely uncomplicated and has long been familiar to many housewives. To begin, cut off the head, then carefully cut the abdomen and take out all the insides, the tail will also not be useful to us. Now make small cuts along the fins and take them out.

Rinse the cleaned mackerel under running warm running water. Dry the inside and out with disposable paper towels and cut the fish into small portions, about 4-6 centimeters in thickness each.

Step 2: Fill the mackerel.

Place slices of mackerel inside a deep bowl or pan. Mix the purified water with salt in the indicated proportions, so you prepare the brine. Fill them with pieces of fish so that they are completely submerged. Add a couple of bay leaves to the same pan, cover everything and refrigerate. Mackerel will be insisted and salted for one day, not less.

Step 3: Prepare the onion.

When it comes time to get the mackerel from the refrigerator, you can do the onion preparation. To do this, cut each vegetable into two halves and peel the husk from them. Then peeled onions cut into thick half rings. Of course, if you want the onions in your dish to lie in beautiful and neat circles, then you do not need to divide it into halves first.

Step 4: Pickle the mackerel with onions.

Remove the mackerel from the refrigerator and drain the brine. Put onion slices at the bottom of the plate and lay the fish on top again.
Meanwhile, prepare the marinade. To do this, in a small separate bowl, mix vegetable oil, wine vinegar, sugar, black pepper and herbs. Mix all the ingredients well with a fork so that they are distributed among themselves. Pour mackerel with onions with the resulting mixture. Cover again and return to refrigerator to marinate 2-3 hours, after which the product is completely ready for use.

Step 5: Serve the mackerel marinated with onions.

Serve the pickled mackerel with onions as a snack or as a separate dish. It is very tasty to eat it with simple boiled potatoes, however, even without everything, it very quickly flies off the table. More often I offer pickled fish in a separate plate decorated with fresh herbs and slices of lemon, and next to this dish place a bread box full of slices of fragrant black bread.
Enjoy your meal!

Recipe Tips:

- You can also add not only black pepper, but also a burning red pepper, peeling it from seeds and chopping it up in small pieces.

- In addition to these spices, you can safely use your favorite seasoning for fish.

- You can use ordinary salt, but it is best to give preference to sea or iodized.
